On Comedy – Lois Brown and Elizabeth Pickard

Pure Research 5

Research focus

This project experimented with comic structures to build new work. By de-constructing the structures of comedy – usually stand-up – the research examined joke structures, punchlines, and other comic tools to create points of transformation in performance.

Lois Brown (Teri Snelgrove)

Lois Brown is a Canadian interdisciplinary performance artist living in Newfoundland. Lois’s interests are in explorations of dramaturgy and choreography, principles of (dis) arts aesthetics, and an investigation of things. The work resulting from these processes and investigations aims beyond interdisciplinariness, beyond a synthesis of disciplinary approaches towards something else, another dimension of expression and experience. Lois’s current fascinations includes everyday cold water and sound, social art practice, and archipelagic thinking.
